Plain-language definitions of the technical terms used for UAE-compliant masonry and lightweight concrete blocks — for specifiers, contractors and inspectors.

U-valueThermalW/m²·K: Heat transmission coefficient of a complete wall assembly. Lower is better. Dubai Al Safat Silver mandates ≤ 0.57 W/m²·K for external walls; Estidama Pearl 1 expects similar performance.Reference: EN ISO 6946
Thermal conductivity (λ)ThermalW/m·K: Material-level conductivity, independent of wall thickness. λ₁₀ is measured at 10 °C reference temperature and a low moisture content.Reference: EN ISO 8990
